Sammie was a remarkable and accomplished falconry bird when his life took a few unexpected turns. He was injured after perching on an exposed power line, losing several talons to electrocution, resulting in the loss of his ability to hunt. After his recovery, he was sent to a breeding facility where he contracted and battled West Nile virus—a disease that many birds don’t survive—but he pulled through. When he was later found to be sterile, he needed a new path, and that led him to Raptor Hallow Sanctuary. Sammie is a confident and skilled flyer, soaring at education programs to inspire and educate audiences about birds of prey.
